Case Study – Fall in nursing home after failing to receive correct medication

HHD solicitor: Fiona Sterritt, Partner, specialising in medical negligence claims

What happened: Our client was placed in residential care for a period of  weeks for respite for his family. Unfortunately during this period he was not administered his correct medication for diabetes. Our client subsequently fell and sustained injury to his hip which required surgery.  Unfortunately our client sustained further poor health and died a number of months later.

How HHD solicitors helped: The family successfully sued the residential care home for negligence in treatment including failure to correctly administer the prescribed medication. We obtained all our client’s medical notes and records and instructed a Nursing Expert to prepare a report on liability and causation. We obtained a further report from an Orthopaedic expert on our client’s hip injuries. We settled the personal injury claim directly with the insurance company for the residential home.

The family were delighted with how their their claim was processed and thanked the medical negligence team for all their hard work. If you have had a medical accident or medical treatment gone wrong, you may be entitled to make a personal injury claim for compensation.
