We are currently acting for women who have experienced contraceptive issues and are bringing medical negligence claims.
According to the BBC, 752 women in Northern Ireland are being contacted about contraceptive implants they have had inserted into their bodies in family planning clinics between October 2017 and August 2020 with a small number of women having become pregnant as a result of same.
The BBC understands that the review of patients involves both the Belfast and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trusts.
The Belfast Trust has apologised for any concern caused and advised it has begun contacting patients.
It is reported that a doctor who is at the centre of the investigation is not working at present.
The contraceptive implant is a small flexible plastic rod that is placed under the skin in a woman’s upper arm, usually by a doctor. It releases the hormone progestogen to prevent pregnancy and should last for three years.
At HHD solicitors we recognise the upset, distress and worry this recent announcement will cause to those women affected.
