Lauren Jones – Lauren joined Higgins Hollywood Deazley in 2013. She graduated from the University of Ulster with a First Class Honours degree in Law with Criminology in July 2013, before obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Studies with Distinction at Queen’s University, Belfast, in June 2015. Lauren was awarded third place in the Belfast Solicitors Association prize. The Belfast Solicitors’ Association prizes are awarded to the three solicitor trainees who attain the highest average marks in the Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Studies examinations. Lauren qualified as a Solicitor in September 2015.

She is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, specialising in Medical and Dental Negligence, Personal Injury Litigation and Historical Institutionalised Abuse Litigation, acting for Plaintiffs in both the High Court and the County Court. Lauren, alongside Fiona Sterritt and Damian Deazley has extensive experience of Medical and Dental Negligence cases of varying complexity and monetary value including but not limited to birthing cases including cerebral palsy and birth trauma, brain injuries, misdiagnosis and delay in diagnosis, surgical errors, negligent cosmetic surgery, retained foreign products, lack of consent, infection cases, product liability actions including vaginal mesh implants and negligence in care homes. Furthermore, Lauren is acting for a number of clients who were patients of Dr Watt, Consultant Neurologist, and have been subjected to the recall process. Lauren is committed to developing a positive client relationship and achieving the best possible result for each of her clients.

In addition, Lauren deals with Historical Institutionalised Abuse Litigation acting for Plaintiffs who have suffered physical, sexual, emotional and systematic abuse whilst under the care of various clerical orders, children’s homes, foster placements and the Health and Social Care Trusts. Lauren is currently working alongside partner, Matt Higgins, and Australian lawyers in an attempt to forge new law in respect of forced deportation of children.

Furthermore, Lauren also assists in the Property department specialising in residential conveyancing.

Lauren has been a committee member of the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association since 2016 and held the position of Secretary for the 2018 and 2019 Committee. Lauren is also actively involved in the Antrim Road Business Association which is funded by the Belfast City Council and aims to develop North Belfast’s trading environment. Lauren is also a member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Practitioners’ Group, and Belfast Solicitors Association.

In recent weeks due to the Coronavirus pandemic and restrictions within Northern Ireland, Lauren has been advising her clients, making court applications and consulting with other solicitors remotely from her desk in her home.
